What Is Pet Farming in Grow a Garden?

Grow a Garden is a Roblox farming game. Pet farming here means getting and leveling pets. It does not mean growing crops. You keep your egg slots busy, keep pets active while you harvest, and decide what to do with each pet that hatches.

Pets still help your crops through their abilities, so the two kinds of farming meet. This page is part of the Pets hub. It shows the route and sends each step to the guide that owns it. The date checked is October 30, 2026.

GAGdata has not run a full in-game test of the whole loop. Each fact below is labelled Reported, Conflict or PENDING.

The Pet Farming Loop: Hatch, Level, Use

Pet farming is one loop with three steps. You hatch an egg, you level the pet, and then you use it. Then you start the next egg. Each step has a guide with the detail.

The loop never stops while you play. Eggs hatch on their timers, pets earn XP as you harvest, and the pets you use feed back into your crops.

Pet Farming Goals and the Guide for Each

Players farm pets for different reasons. Pick your goal in the table, then open the guide in the last column. The table does not rank the goals.

Egg Basics for Pet Farming

Eggs are where the loop starts. The facts below come from the Hatching Guide, which was verified on June 1, 2026. GAGdata has not rechecked them for this page. The guide holds the drop tables and hatch times.

  • An egg is placed on a garden plot slot and hatches when its timer ends. Reported
  • The egg timer runs whether you are online or offline. Reported
  • Players start with 3 egg slots. The maximum is 13. Reported
  • The Pet Egg Shop restocks every 30 minutes. Reported
  • Eggs cannot be traded. Hatched pets can. Reported

Because the timer runs offline, egg slots are the part of pet farming that keeps working while you are away. More slots mean more eggs in progress. Fill every slot before you log off.

Pet XP Per Hour by Rarity

The GAGdata pet database holds 359 pet entries. 334 of them have an XP per hour value above zero. The other 25 have none yet. The database was last updated June 22, 2026. These are database values and are not confirmed in game.

Read the table as a spread, not a promise. The Epic median of 1,640 is about 18 times the Common median of 92. The Prismatic median of 40,000 is about 435 times the Common median. Inside one rarity the spread can be wide: Mythical runs from 150 to 30,000. A rarer pet is not always a faster leveler, so check the single pet before you plan around it.

Two XP models are live on GAGdata. The Pet XP and Leveling guide gives a per-second formula based on pet weight. The database lists per-hour values. They are not reconciled. Use the Pet XP Calculator for a time estimate and treat it as an estimate.

Three TBD entries have no value, and the Event row has values for only 3 of 8 pets. This page prints no per-pet list.

Hunger, Helper Pets and Items: What Outside Guides Report

Two outside guides, read on October 30, 2026, add details that GAGdata has not tested. Neither shows a publish date. Treat all of this as reported.

Sportskeeda says a pet with an empty hunger meter stops gaining XP, and that the meter needs a top up about every 12 hours. It also names pets that raise other pets' XP: Night Owl, Blood Owl and Iguanodon. None of those three is in the GAGdata pet database.

ProGameGuides lists pet toys, treats and a level up lollipop. Its prices disagree with each other, so GAGdata publishes none.

In the GAGdata database, the ability text of Hootsie Roll and Marshmallow Lamb mentions XP for other pets. Flame Bear and Nightjar are event pets with XP effects, and their numbers are PENDING.

Pet Farming Routine: Step by Step

Run these six steps each session. Steps that rely on a reported fact say so.

  1. Fill your egg slots. Buy eggs from the Pet Egg Shop and place one in each free slot. The shop restocks every 30 minutes, per the Hatching Guide.
  2. Pick eggs by target pet. Find the pet you want in the Hatching Guide drop tables, then buy the egg that drops it.
  3. Equip pets and harvest. Equip your pets and harvest crops. The Pet XP and Leveling guide reports that pets earn XP from harvests while active.
  4. Check the hunger meter. Open the pet's View option and read its hunger meter. Outside guides say an empty meter stops XP. This is untested.
  5. Track pet age. Enter the pet and the target age in the Pet XP Calculator to see the time left.
  6. Decide: keep, trade or hold. Compare the ability in Pet Abilities and the dated price in Pet Values before you keep or trade the pet.

A short routine that you repeat beats a long one you skip. Come back to step 1 whenever a slot is free.

Pet Farming and Crop Farming Together

Crops pay for eggs, and harvests level pets, so the two loops feed each other. Plan the crops first with the Farming Strategy guide. If you step away, the AFK Farming guide covers crop income while offline.

This page does not rank crops or set a crop order. It only shows where pets fit in.

Pet Farming FAQ

1

What is pet farming in Grow a Garden?

Pet farming in Grow a Garden is the routine of hatching eggs, leveling the pets that hatch, and using or trading them. It is not crop farming, although pets help crops through their abilities. GAGdata splits the routine into hatch, level and use, and links one guide for each step.

2

How do I farm pets fast in Grow a Garden?

Farming pets fast in Grow a Garden comes down to keeping every egg slot busy and keeping pets active while you harvest. The GAGdata Hatching Guide reports 3 starting egg slots and a maximum of 13. Pets earn XP while you harvest, so a short harvest loop levels them.

3

What is the best egg to farm pets in Grow a Garden?

The best egg to farm in Grow a Garden depends on your goal, and GAGdata does not name one egg as best. The Hatching Guide lists the drop table for each egg. Find the pet you want, then compare the cost and hatch time of the egg that drops it.

4

How much XP per hour do pets earn in Grow a Garden?

Pet XP per hour in Grow a Garden runs from 58 for the lowest Common entry to 50,000 for Fairy in the GAGdata pet database. Median values rise with rarity, from 92 for Common to 40,000 for Prismatic. These are database values and are not yet confirmed in game.

5

Do pets level up while I am offline in Grow a Garden?

Whether pets level up while you are offline in Grow a Garden is not confirmed. The GAGdata Pet XP guide says pets gain XP from harvesting crops with the pet active. Egg timers do run offline, per the Hatching Guide. This page marks offline pet XP as PENDING.

6

Do pets need food in Grow a Garden?

Pets in Grow a Garden have a hunger meter, according to two outside guides. One says pets with an empty meter stop gaining XP and that the meter needs a top up about every 12 hours. GAGdata has not tested this, so the hunger rule stays marked as reported.

7

How many egg slots can I have in Grow a Garden?

Egg slots in Grow a Garden start at 3 and reach a maximum of 13, per the GAGdata Hatching Guide checked June 1, 2026. Extra slots come from the Raphael NPC trade, the Garden Ascension Shop at 40 Garden Coins each for up to 5, or the Egg Slot Gamepass.

8

Is pet farming worth it in Grow a Garden?

Pet farming in Grow a Garden pays off when you match it to a goal. Crop boost pets raise harvest value, while rare or large pets can trade for far more. GAGdata publishes no profit per hour figure for pet farming because no tested number exists. Use Pet Values for current prices.

9

Should I farm pets or crops first in Grow a Garden?

Crops come first in Grow a Garden, because Sheckles buy eggs and pets earn XP while you harvest. Start the crop loop, then add eggs as slots allow. The Farming Strategy guide covers crop order, and this page covers what to do with eggs and pets once the garden runs.
